Irish Creatives in London
When I moved to London in 2023, I was excited to be in a new city, and, I also found it overwhelming - trying to figure things out over here as a self employed creative. I hit a bit of creative block and wasn’t sure how to get back into my flow of things nor was I sure quite where my creativity fit into this place that had so many possibilities.
I started a small photography project ‘Irish Creatives in London’, I met people in the creative and cultural spaces here; we met in person and chatted for about an hour, I learnt about their journey’s - I wanted to hear their stories - learn about what kind of work they were doing and how they had settled in. We followed these conversations with a photoshoot in a location of their choosing, the only criteria for the chosen location being that it felt like home to them while they were in London.
At first, I thought I had a fairly clear idea of how the project would go. But the more people I spoke to, the more it became something other than what I was expecting. I was expecting everyone’s main goal to be ‘fame and money’,- it wasn’t. The main goal was to be able to live off their passion. The stories they shared were honest, layered, and full of insight. Because of that, I’ve taken my time (each participants has been very patient!) with figuring out how to actually showcase the images and tell their stories. Showcasing them on my website is step one of sharing the images and stories, the next step is a potential podcast or video series where you can hear from each participant directly on how our conversations went, something we can add to on an ongoing basis.
I’m excited to share with you! If you want to take part or learn more about this ongoing project please reach out to me!
